Sidney Zemp to lead oil painting class at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center

Posted 10/15/2012 11:28:00 AM

Bamberg-based artist Sidney Zemp is known for his attention to detail and understanding of light and color in his oil paintings.

He captures his subjects with such exacting precision that one might be surprised to find that he is a self-taught artist. He grew up surrounded by shaded hills and black-bottom rivers that set the imagination running and rolling toward new adventures and experiences -- a background that shines through in his work.

Those looking to hone their own still life oil painting skills are in luck. Zemp is conducting a three-day workshop on the subject Oct. 22-24 at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center. From 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., he will help students through the entire painting process, from start to finish. Students will learn how to prep the canvas, prepare the palette, mix colors and set up materials for a still life painting.
