A Yuletide Madrigal Feast
Posted 12/4/2012 4:54:00 PM
The
College of Charleston Madrigal Singers will once again provide music lovers with a special holiday treat later this week.
The group will perform sacred and secular traditional holiday carols at the Alumni Memorial Hall of Randolph Hall in
Charleston Dec. 6-8. The ensemble is made up of talented members of the College of Charleston Chorus and is directed by Dr. Robert Taylor, who is also the conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus. The audience will enjoy old carols such as The Twelve Days of Christmas, Coventry Carol, and Once In Royal David’s City in a similar form that Renaissance partygoers would have heard.
In addition to listening to the beautiful tunes, guests will be able to partake in a holiday meal. The menu makes my stomach rumble just looking at it: Cornish hen, haricot vert, wild rice, apple caramel tarts, coffee, wine and wassail.
What’s that? You say. Yes, you read that correctly… wassail! That rich, eggy Renaissance drink used to warm carolers and toast the trees will be available for sipping.
Make your plans now because tickets will not be sold at the door. General admission is $60. Reserve your space by calling (843) 953-8231. For more information, please
