A floating Fourth of July

Parades are fun for kids and adults of all ages, no doubt, but how much more fun is a boat parade?
This Saturday, June 29, Lake Murray
will be home to the annual Fourth of July Celebration and Boat Parade
. Boats of all sizes will be decked out in red, white and blue. The best-decorated boats will win prizes. This year's theme is Red, White and Bling, so I'm hoping for not just patriotic colors, but some really over-the-top rhinestones and blinking lights. Time to break out the Bedazzler!
You can view the parade from the recreation areas
at the dam. The south SCE&G recreation area also has a nice beach for swimming, so you could pack a picnic and make a great day of it. The parade starts around noon. Boats will start at Bomb Island and make their way towards the dam.
And what would a Fourth of July celebration be without fireworks? Fireworks will be set off from both Spence Island and Dreher Island around 9 p.m. Saturday night. Pretty great way to get your Independence Day celebrations started!
