A new spot to dine outdoors in Florence

Downtown Florence has a new spot for outdoor dining – and you can choose your meal from four restaurants.

The Renaissance Dining Courtyard is a public space the city created for a downtown gathering spot and a place to enjoy al fresco dining.

The courtyard is behind Da Massimo Ristorante Italiano, The Clay Pot Coffee Shop, Thai House II and Dolce Vita Chocolate & Wine Tasting Room, all on South Dargan Street.

Ray Reich, downtown development manager, said diners can go through the restaurant they want to order from to let them know they’re dining in the courtyard and then have their meal served outside.

During special events, such as Third Thursday, diners can come directly to the courtyard, and community servers will take orders for and deliver them from any of the restaurants.

The courtyard, which opened in mid-May, is part of an effort to create a dining and entertainment district in downtown Florence, Reich said.

Another such dining space is on the way. James Allen Plaza, named for one of the city’s founders, will open soon near the new Hotel Florence, which opened May 24. Victor’s Bistro has moved into the first floor of the hotel. The city’s new plaza will back up to Victor’s own outdoor dining space.
