New look at Sea Pines: Clubhouse being built on Plantation Club site for 2013

Visitors each April to the RBC Heritage at Sea Pines’ Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island have seen the iconic course’s clubhouse expanded over recent years, including a conference center that doubles as a visitor amenity site during the annual PGA Tour event. Now, another landmark within the resort will be replaced with a brand-new facility.

Sea Pines has announced plans for a new golf clubhouse to serve the resort’s heralded Heron Point by Pete Dye course, as well as the neighboring Ocean Course, one of the island’s original layouts. Finish date on the project is set for late 2013.

The new 16,000-square-foot clubhouse will be located on the site of the Plantation Club, which previously has served both courses. Amenities for the building will include an “expansive” pro shop, bar and grill, plus meeting and event spaces and locker rooms.

The Plantation Club has been a sort of welcoming site for visitors for years, positioned along tourists’ route to Harbour Town. Now, resort officials expect it to become a destination for those playing the two “other” courses.

The clubhouse is the latest of several Sea Pines renovations. The best-known of those is the Inn at Harbour Town, a luxury facility located alongside the course’s first tee and fairway. Harbour Town also has upgraded its conference center, installed new cart paths and done restoration work to the marshes along Calibogue Sound, bordering the famed “Lighthouse” 18th hole, and plans are in place for a Sea Pines Resort Fitness Center.
