Winter discounts: Waterford, Charlotte area’s Carolina Trails has great rates

Stop reading if you’ve heard this before: When the temperatures go down, so do the prices of golf in South Carolina. Of course, if you don’t mind a little nip in the air during your round, and like to save money, the next three months are the perfect time to play.

The Carolina Trail, a collection of Charlotte-area courses that includes Rock Hill’s excellent Waterford Golf Club, is currently holding its “Winter Golf Sale,” knocking down prices “anytime Monday-Sunday.” Waterford, designed by PGA Tour and Champions Tour star Hale Irwin and located five minutes from the Dave Lyle Boulevard exit on Interstate 77 (1900 Clubhouse Road, Rock Hill 29730), is among four of the seven Carolina Trail courses charging $29 for 18 holes with cart, seven days a week; the others charge $35.

What’s the catch? Well, you do have to purchase rounds on-line, at either of two websites, www.clickitgolf.com or www.charlottegolf.com, to receive these prices. Rates for each of the seven Trail courses are good through March 31, and prices vary when holiday rates are in effect.

For more information about rates and tee times, go to the above sites. For information about Waterford Golf Club, click here or call (803) 324-0300.
