If your idea of the perfect Labor Day weekend treat is great golf, plenty of celebrities and a luxurious location – and don’t mind paying for an unforgettable experience – then the annual Hilton Head Island Celebrity Golf Weekend
might be just your way to wind up the summer.
Now in its 33rd year, the Aug. 30-Sept. 1 gathering also raises money – nearly $4 million since its inception in 1979 – for children’s charities, with 20 area charities in the South Carolina Lowcountry
benefiting this year. The tournament is open to the public for both individual and team spots, and while the cost – $2,500 per person or $10,000 for a four-person team – is substantial, the payoff is pretty special, too.
The tournament matches more than 30 celebrities with amateur players in the three-day format. Among those celebrities participating this year (as of July 17) are actors Anthony Anderson, Kevin Farley, Debbe Dunning, “24’s” Dennis Haysbert and Gregory Itzin, Richard Schiff and Kevin Sorbo; comedian Henry Cho; former athletes Bobby Cremins (Georgia Tech and College of Charleston coach), Donald Driver (NFL Green Bay Packers), Willie Gault (NFL Chicago Bears), Gus Williams (NBA), Mark Malone and Reggie Smith; Food Netowork stars Robert Irvine and Beau MacMillan; rock legend Alice Cooper, an avid golfer; and Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney.
The golf schedule includes rounds at the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course at Palmetto Dunes Resort
on Aug. 30; the Arnold Palmer Signature Course at Wexford Plantation
, a private club participating for the first time on Aug. 31; and the final round Sept. 1 at Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort
, host since 1969 for the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage
The cost of individual and team packages also includes food and beverages daily, hotel accommodations, and tickets to evening festivities. In addition to participants, tournament spectators are welcome all three days at no charge.
