Saturday at The Ocean Course: Rains force PGA to finish third round Sunday morning

Heavy rains that struck The Ocean Course around 5 p.m. Saturday forced play in the 94th PGA Championship to be suspended. The third round will be completed early Sunday morning, the PGA of America said Saturday evening. Gates to the course will open at 7 a.m.

Because of the suspension, Saturday tickets will not be honored for Sunday’s completion of Saturday play. “We already have a sellout for Sunday,” said a PGA spokesperson, explaining that the decision is per standard PGA Tour policy regarding cancellation of a round.

Play will resume Sunday with players riding in vans to the course beginning at 7:30 a.m. All players must be in position and ready to play at 7:45 a.m.

Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh were on the eighth hole when play was stopped, and they have the most golf to play on Sunday.

Sunday’s final round will be played in threesomes (instead of the usual twosomes) and will have players starting at both Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Starting times will begin at 11:44 a.m. and run through 1:45 p.m. Leaders of the tournament after compilation of 54-hole scores will start from the first tee.
