The Golf.com
World Amateur Handicap Championship
, played August 30 to September 3 in Myrtle Beach, is already one of the most popular amateur golf events of the year -- and now they have added one of golf’s most popular personalities to the mix.
David Feherty, CBS analyst and one of the funniest men in the game, will be headlining the entertainment on the event’s final night at what has become known as the “World’s Largest 19th Hole.” Held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the 19th Hole is the social hub for the event, providing guests with free food from some of the area’s finest restaurants, open bars, live entertainment and a golf expo.
As for the golf tournament, well it’s pretty cool, too. The 72-hole tournament is open to men and women of all ages, as long as they have a verifiable handicap. Over the first three days, players, separated into divisions and individual flights, compete on a different Myrtle Beach course each day. On the fourth day, winners for the flights compete for the championship on the
Dunes Golf and Beach Club
, one of the finest courses in South Carolina.
If you’ve never played an amateur tournament, this would be a great place to start. Besides the great golf courses and top-notch entertainment, the handicap system gives everyone a chance to win — past winners’ handicaps have ranged from two to 34!
