You don’t have to be a noble lord or lady to enjoy a good jousting. The exciting Knights of the Guild-East will demonstrate the medieval equestrian sport at the South Carolina Horseman’s Association Expo taking place Feb. 9 at the S.C. Equine Park in Camden.

The exhibition is just one of the Expo’s many presentations and horse activities geared to please every kind of horse lover from Flicka fans to professional riders.

Starting things off at 10 a.m. are those armor-wearing cavaliers and their studly stallions. The team of mounted knights will bring to life the pageantry and skills of jousting, the favorite form of entertainment during the Middle Ages.

They will be followed by world-class event rider Lellie Ward, who advocates Equine/Human Proprioception or “body awareness” as the preferred method of communication with horses.

Other event highlights include an introduction to endurance riding presented by a team from the American Endurance Ride Conference and an exhibition of therapeutic riding for the handicapped. Add to that an assortment of demonstrations that include Arabians, dressage, natural horsemanship, walking horses and side-saddle riding.

Visitors also will have the chance to visit the horse health pavilion featuring the latest in veterinary, nutrition and farrier products and services with opportunities to ask questions of top professionals.

The festivities start at 10 a.m. and will include children’s activities, a silent auction and tag sale and vendors selling horse-related merchandise.

Admission is $10. For more information on the Expo in Camden, call (803) 428-5656.
