Take your best shot, then enter it in nature photo contest

Snap to it! You’ve only got a couple more weeks to enter your best South Carolina nature shot in the First Annual Santee Refuge Photography Contest

Whatever your weapon of choice — Go Pro, cell phone, point-and-shoot or digital SLR — it’s all good so long as you’re not a professional photographer and you took the picture after April 1, 2011.

The contest features four categories: 1) landscape, 2) wildlife, 3) flowers and plants and 4) Santee National Wildlife Refuge. Photos can be taken anywhere in the state, except for those being entered in Category 4. Those, of course, need to be shot in the 13,000-acre refuge, located on the north shore of Lake Marion.

Photos of dogs, cats and other domesticated animals are not allowed. They’re looking for wildlife in the great outdoors — not in zoos or aquariums.

The entry fee is $25 (check only) for up to four photos with no more than one in each category. Submissions will be accepted until Feb. 22.

The top five picks in each category will be displayed at the 2013 Santee Birding and Nature Festival taking place April 26-28. Winners will receive cash prizes and free registration to the festival.
