They’re back! Prothonotary warblers — those avian stars of springtime — have returned to the Audubon Center at Francis Beidler Forest
. And that’s cause for celebration.
Boasting some of the highest densities of breeding Prothonotary warblers in South Carolina, the 16,000-acre sanctuary hosts a party each year to welcome the flashy yellow-orange songbird and others like it who show up in the spring to breed and raise their chicks.
Wine and Warblers, taking place from 5 to 9 p.m. April 20, promises to be a birding event not to be missed. Expert birdwatchers will be escorting guests along the Audubon Center’s 1.75-mile boardwalk pointing out migratory visitors as they explore this unique old-growth swamp forest.
The festivities also will include wine tastings and hors d’oeuvres.
Cost to attend the event is $40 with proceeds benefiting Audubon South Carolina. Reservations and advance payment are required. To reserve your time slot for one of the guided walks, call (843) 462-2150.
