Stumped for a Father’s Day gift that isn’t going to end up on the back shelf of your dad’s closet? Think out of the box — and outdoors.

Take your pop paddling on one of South Carolina’s most beautiful blackwater rivers. Edisto River Adventures is offering a Father’s Day picnic-and-paddle deal that includes a guided three- to four-hour trip in a kayak or canoe with lunch. Pay for three family members and dad rides free.

This special excursion sets off at 9:30 a.m. June 16, Father’s Day. Participants will meet at Edisto River Adventures in Ridgeway and hop aboard a van to the put-in at Mars Old Field landing. It’s a slow, easy five-mile paddle downstream to the take out at the Edisto River Adventures outpost.

Once there, you can play volleyball, horseshoes or corn hole, or just chill out and enjoy the serene riverine setting

The trip price is $55 for adults, $45 for children 6 to 12, and free for kids five and younger. If you book a group of four or more, there’s no charge for dad.

Edisto River Adventures offers half-day and full-day tours Tuesday through Sundays all summer long. Call (843) 870-6978 to make a reservation. For more information on the river trips, click here.
