The town of Newberry is the seat of the county which bears the same name. It is located near Interstate 26 in the central Piedmont region of South Carolina. In the mid-18th century the area was settled by Scotch-Irish, English and German immigrants. The completion of the railroad through Newberry in 1853 brought prosperity as it became one of the largest cotton markets in South Carolina.
Newberry’s downtown district provides a small-town charm with a healthy business environment. The historic downtown area includes antique shops, art galleries, fine dining, concerts, bed and breakfast and numerous parks. Points of interest include the Newberry Opera House, Newberry College and Lynches Woods.
