Park Roots: Discipline of Genealogy

Archeology uses many disciplines. During this lecture we will explore the discipline of Genealogy and how it can help reveal the past. Genealogy is taking root everywhere and revealing all kinds of interesting information about the men and women who helped shape South Carolina. "Park Roots" will lead you through some of the incredible discoveries being made and the exciting genealogical research being conducted at the plantations, former CCC camps, colonial settlements and other sites that make up our South Carolina State Parks. The presentation will also present tips for individuals who may be doing their own research into their South Carolina roots and how to connect individuals on a family tree to important state events and time periods. Discussion will follow how techniques can apply to archeological dig sites. Speaker: Elizabeth Laney, Park Interpreter at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site and David Jones State Park Service Archeologist
