Join us on National Public Lands Day and help restore the historic views of an18th-century rice plantation. Volunteers will assist with clearing vegetation from the edges of a rice field and from the area that was once the location of the plantation's slave quarters. This work will make it possible for the park to enhance the interpretation of African American history at the park. We will use hand-tools such as limb saws, loppers, etc. We will also conduct basic trail maintenance on the park's nature trail which passes through Hampton's pine forests and by former agricultural areas.
Meet in the parking lot by the Ranger Station. Wear boots and long pants. Bring insect repellent, sunblock, water, snack, lunch, tools, and work gloves.
