Smocking Baby Clothes

Have a baby, grandbaby, or one on the way? Here's your opportunity to learn the classic and fashionable art of smocking! From baby bonnets to bubbles to jon jons, smocking has seen a resurgence of popularity in recent years – even Kate Middleton has been dressing her daughter Charlotte in smocked dresses. This 2-night workshop will teach you the basics of smocking and picture smocking. You will learn to smock an insert for practice and then move on to an actual garment – either a girls dress or a boy's jon jon. The workshop will conclude with a short car trip to the famous Farmhouse Fabrics online store where participants will be able to shop for fabric and sewing accessories. Amelia Spade is the programs director for the Charleston chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America and owns Bumblebee Bonnets, a handmade baby bonnet company. She will guide you through planning out a project, learning the stiches, choosing colors and finishing touches to the garment. The program price includes a two-nights stay in the park's cabins, hands-on instruction, field trip to Farmhouse Fabrics, and all program supplies including girl’s or boy’s garment for you to smock. Check-in will be Tuesday after 4pm, the program will be Wednesday, and check-out by 10am Thursday.
