Dooley Planetarium at Francis Marion University

Visitors experience the day and night sky through a Spitz-512 Star Projector capable of producing 2,354 stars, several prominent galaxies and star clusters onto a 33-foot dome suspended from the ceiling by 14 chains. Special effect projectors and a stereo sound system augment the projector to present a realistic illusion of celestial objects and their apparent motion in the sky. The instruments display the sky as seen from anywhere on earth for any time, for any day, for any year. The instruments can transport viewers through time and space to witness a variety of celestial events. Programs for the public are offered on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month at 3pm. In Dec, shows are the 2nd & 3rd Sunday at 3pm. Programs for school groups are held weekday mornings. Call 843/661-1381 to reserve a planetarium show.
