Historic Columbia

Historic Columbia is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Columbia and Richland County’s historic and cultural heritage. We operate four historic house museums in downtown Columbia: Robert Mills House & Gardens - 1616 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC One of only five National Historic Landmarks within Columbia, the Robert Mills House showcases the skill of the architect who designed some of our nation's most prominent buildings, including the Washington Monument. Hampton-Preston Mansion & Gardens - 1615 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC One of Columbia's oldest remaining houses, the Hampton-Preston Mansion was home to two planter-class families. This historic site featured gardens renowned for the size and variety of their plantings. Mann-Simons Site & Outdoor Museum - 1403 Richland Street, Columbia, SC Although only one house stands today, the Mann-Simons Site was a collection of commercial and domestic spaces owned and operated by the same African American family from at least 1843 until 1970. Woodrow Wilson Family Home: A Museum of Reconstruction - 1705 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC South Carolina's only presidential site! Woodrow Wilson’s family built a house in Columbia during the height of Reconstruction. Although the home has changed hands many times since then, it stands as a reminder of how our city struggled to rebuild itself in the post-Civil War era. While we are well known for managing those historic properties as historic house museums, many people aren’t aware that: We offer daily house and garden tours, walking tours, and guided bus tours. We rent out our historic houses and gardens for special events. We curate exhibits from local artifacts. We host a full calendar of community events. We work closely with city and county officials to protect structures with historical significance and places that matter to our community. Explore the unique history of our community, and help us preserve it for future gen
