Olde English District

Olde English District

Like the classic namesake song performed by Louis Armstrong, the Inn Upon Moon River Plantation offers a relaxing and creative space to inspire your imagination. It is located in the historic Olde English District in Chester, South Carolina. The Inn was established as a Bed & Breakfast in 2010 by David and Elizabeth Claytor. The Inn-keepers draw from their experience as operators of an authentic and legendary "chitlin circuit" blues club to understand the needs of the guests for high quality service, relaxing space and an atmosphere of music and culture that inspires the imagination.

The Inn Upon Moon River Plantation is situated in an old southern plantation style home built in 1904 for the Cross family. The house design was the creation of an African American, Thomas Henry Ayers DDS, and is fondly referred to as “Uncle Tommy’s Mansion Design," a description cited by the celebrated Ms. Vivian Ayers of the historic Brainerd Institute in Chester. The Inn Upon Moon River Plantation displays an abiding love of God and appreciation for African American history and music. Paintings and pictures of positive contributors to this uniquely American experience are creatively displayed throughout the house.

Each bedroom has its unique music theme: Jazz, Gospel, Blues, and Rock n Roll bedroom. They are designed and decorated to provide guests with privacy and relaxation in an atmosphere of southern charm.
