North Pole Nights
The wonders of the North Pole are coming to Newberry! Visit downtown Newberry on Fridays in December to experience an evening at the North Pole! Starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. come see Santa Claus under the falling snow in Memorial Park and get your photo from a professional photographer!* On the first 3 North Pole Nights be sure to stop by the Chamber of Commerce at Community Hall for a FREE Christmas Craft & FREE story time with Mrs. Claus at 6:30 and 7. Each date there will be a new story and craft. North Pole Night activities begin at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. on December 1, 8, 15, 22, 2017. Contact the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation, and Tourism office at 803-321-1015 for more information or visit www.newberrychristmas.com. So how does the snow work? Thanks to technology developed by movie makers, your family can enjoy our faux snowfall in Memorial Park on our special North Pole Nights. The "fake snow" really sets the mood for Christmas shopping downtown. The material used is known as "dry snow" and is the result of a chemical process very similar to a foam machine. The result is realistic looking snow falling slowly to the ground, where it will evaporate after five to seven minutes. The snow is non-toxic and biodegradable and comes from 2 machines that masquerade as vintage style lamp posts. *If you wish to purchase a $5 CD of your photo with Santa please order your CD at the event from the photographer. CDs ordered will be available for pick up from the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation, and Tourism office the following Wednesday.
