Description

Founded in 1770 as a Chapel of Ease to St. Mark's Episcopal Church (Pinewood), this Gothic Revival Sanctuary (c.1850) is the burial site of Joel Poinsett, a US statesman credited with discovering the poinsettia in Mexico and bringing it to the U.S., where it became synonymous with Christmas. The cemetery contains the graves of nearly 100 Revolutionary War, the War Between the States, World War I and World War II veterans. Church of the Holy Cross is an active parish within the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. Holy Communion 10am.
