This was the first African-American congregation to be established in Union around 1883. The members first worshipped in the Old Union Methodist Church before constructing the present structure in 1894. The church is a late 19th century interpretation of vernacular architecture of the period and region and has been altered over the years. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
