25th annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show

Join us on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday October 19, 2014 for the 25th Annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show. The Georgetown Wooden Boat Show – always held on the third weekend in October – offers fun for the whole family. The 25th Anniversary show will feature one of the nation’s best wooden boat exhibits with more than 130 classic wooden boats displayed on land and water, a wooden boatbuilding competition, children’s model boatbuilding, knot tying, maritime art and crafts, food, and music. Admission is free to the public. On Saturday, October 18, the Wooden Boat Challenge will feature teams of two racing to build a rowing skiff within a 4 hour time limit and then test their boats for seaworthiness in a rowing relay on the Sampit River. Teams will be scored on building speed, quality of workmanship and rowing speed. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams. This year’s 25th anniversary show will extend to Sunday, October 19 from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday's events will include an ensemble performance by the Winyah Indigo Chorale Society and an Opti Pram regatta featuring the SC Youth Sailing program’s fleet of wooden Opti’s. A special attraction will be the Master Boatbuilders Challenge; teams of past Wooden Boat Challenge winners will be given the same materials as the Saturday challenge but can build any boat they wish. The competition will focus on quality workmanship and there will a four hour time limit. Boatbuilding will begin at 11 a.m. to give the teams time to put their boat’s in the water before the show’s end at 4 p.m.
