This star spangled event will feature a boat parade, fireworks and live music. Boat owners deck their boats out in patriotic decorations with hopes of bringing home a prize. You can view the parade from the recreation areas at the dam. The south SCE&G recreation area also has a nice beach for swimming, so you could pack a picnic and make a great day of it. The parade starts around noon. Boats will start at Bomb Island and make their way towards the dam. Fireworks will be set off from both Spence Island and Dreher Island around 9 p.m.
In 2008 the See America Tour filmed the Independence Day event. Lake Murray was one of nine locations in the United States to be included in the tour! Lake Murray’s celebration will be part of a documentary series which will air across national networks.
