SC Rush Hour
Imagine soaring above the forest canopy, eye to eye with exotica and flying at a speed your hummingbird pals would envy. Thankfully, plenty of folks statewide imagined just that. And as a result, South Carolina is now festooned with a variety of ziplines.
In the Upstate, Wildwater guides folks along nine to 13 zips over the treetops in a tour. Meanwhile, Hilton Head’s version zips through massive live oaks, and in the Midlands, Carolina Adventure World invites folks to add some mudding or dirt biking (rentals available) to their zippy fun. Over on the Grand Strand, Broadway at the Beach combines a ropes course and zipline.
Speedsters can drive it like they stole it (okay, borrowed it) at the $12 million BMW Performance Driving School in Greer. Various programs are available for a wide range of ages (licensed drivers, only), and each focuses on the ultimate test of the ultimate driving machine.
Or catch some air with a quick lesson at one of the state’s handful of kiteboard/kitesurf outfitters in Myrtle Beach, Charleston and near Hilton Head. Novices need to dedicate a bit of time to lessons, as safety comes first. But newbies can go aloft with just a few hours of prep.
