WHO – PGA Tour player Matt Kuchar won the 2014 RBC Heritage in a most dramatic way, holing out from the bunker at the final hole. Through 2016, he had won seven times on the Tour, including the 2012 Players Championship and the Memorial Tournament and WGC Accenture Match Play, both in 2013.
HIS FAVORITE SC DISH – “The best thing I ever ate in South Carolina was crab cakes; they’ve got some fantastic crab cakes at Vine Restaurant in Coligny Plaza.”
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL – “It’s hard for me to have great adjectives for describing food, but they were really, really tasty with enough crab, enough flavor to be a solid meal without any kind of additives. You knew it was good crab, had a lot of flavor, and it’s hard to turn down a good crab cake. That was a one-time thing because we normally do a lot of cooking in (his rental house with his family) and ordering in this week.”
WHAT THE CHEF SAYS – Olivier Allain, chef since Vine’s opening in 2010: “That meal was an exception to the rule, as we do not have crab cakes on our menu. That was a special occasion for a wine tasting, and we had crab-stuffed oysters in a trio with scallops that night. Our usual seafood specialties include butter fish, which is marinated in an Asian caramel; sea bass with black truffle sauce; and scallops with raviolis. But sorry, Matt, no crab cakes.”
