City of Denmark

If you’ve never been here or you don’t know someone from the area, chances are you’ve never even heard of Denmark, SC. If you talk to the natives you might learn the very first transcontinental telephone call was made here in 1915 in the building which now houses fine antiques in The Caroline Collection. You may be told the local Dime Store is still in operation complete with candy counter and ICEE Maker. If you ask you’ll hear about the delicious baked goods at the Mennonite bakery, the hardware and gift store that has everything from hammers to fine china and the beautiful public golf course at Crestwood Golf Club. You’ll also learn that Denmark is the home of Denmark Technical College, as well as the home of Voorhees College, a private four-year liberal arts institution. And you’re certain to hear Denmark is the hometown of Jim Harrison, the nationally known artist who specializes in rural Americana scenes.
