Fort Mill in eastern York County is located just south of the North Carolina state line. Fort Mill takes its name from a colonial-era fort built by the British and a grist mill on nearby Steele Creek. Much of the area's history stems from the Catawba Indians, the only federally recognized Native American tribe in South Carolina. Interstate 77 provides convenient access to Fort Mill’s main street which features antique shops and restaurants.
