Prosperity lies in southern Newberry County, approximately seven miles from Lake Murray. With the arrival of the railroad the town was chartered in 1851. Like so many towns in South Carolina the community developed around the railroad. Today, Prosperity provides restaurants, antique shops and specialty stores. Nearby on Lake Murray is Dreher Island State Recreation Area.
