Town of Moncks Corner

This scenic, quaint little town is the site of many historic churches, and the dam and locks of the mighty hydroelectric power plant are nearby. Mepkin Abbey, formerly a rice plantation, is a beautiful Roman Catholic monastery with a garden and chapel open to the public. Many fine examples of early rice plantations are along the rivers and are still serving as residences. Strawberry Chapel is a "chapel-of-ease" and the last remaining building of the town of Childsburg, which was a bustling town before the Civil War. Services are occasionally held here and the cemetery is still being used. Biggin Church Ruins and St. James-Goose Creek Church are both early 1700s churches worth visiting in the area.
