By educating many students in the areas of hospitality, tourism and culinary arts, the Culinary Institute of Charleston plays an integral role in the Lowcountry’s hospitality and tourism industry. It offers a wide array of credit and continuing education (noncredit) offerings to meet the diverse training needs of the industry. UPCOMING EVENT: The African-American Experience: From Black Hands to White Mouths: February 29, 2020, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site. *Registration deadline: Feb. 24, 2020* Enjoy a special presentation given by 2020 Chef Ambassador Chef Kevin Mitchell of the Culinary Institute of Charleston. Chef Mitchell earned his Master’s at the University of Mississippi in Southern Studies, focusing on Southern Foodways and the historical tradition of African-Americans in the culinary arts. Chef Mitchell will be presenting, “From Black Hands to White Mouths,” his research on the lives of the free and enslaved African-American cooks of Charleston. $10.00/Adults, $8.00/SC Seniors, $3/Ages 6-16 & Students with ID Advanced registration required.
