In Goose Creek, they believe in recreation and healthy outdoor fun. That’s evident in the large Goose Creek Community Center, where both residents and visitors have access to a wide variety of activities designed to entertain, exercise and invigorate both body and mind.
The Community Center offers classes for kids in ballet, tap and jazz, gymnastics and tumbling, drama, Double Dutch jump roping, hip hop break dancing, cooking, martial arts, piano, swimming and yoga. Adults can participate in many of the same activities, as well as line dancing, one-stroke painting, pickleball, volleyball and more.
For those who want to get out and enjoy nature, the city’s municipal complex is the starting point for seven miles of hiker-biker trails, including treks around the complex’s Municipal Center Lake. If fishing is your thing, the lake provides a great place to wet a line, too.
Marrington Plantation on Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station offers more opportunities to bike, hike and fish. Hailed as the best multi-use trail system in the lower part of the state, this 1,600-acre woodland preserve features 17 miles of trails for mountain biking, hiking, cross-country running and horseback riding. Several nice fishing ponds also are located on the property.
Maybe you’re looking for a more exotic fishing experience than merely sitting on a lake bank and casting your lure. That’s when you move on to a couple of fishing-charter operations: Triple Hook Fishing Charters, also offering boat tours, water sports, outdoor activities and more; and Quality Time Outdoors, an outfitter specializing in fishing and water sports.
Those with their own boat will want to head to Bushy Park Landing, located east of the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek. It offers access to Fosters Creek and the Cooper River.
This being golf-crazed South Carolina, and the particularly golf-devoted Charleston area, Goose Creek owns its own golf course. Crowfield Golf Club was built on the site of the former Crowfield Plantation (dating to 1701) and is wrapped around the plantation’s ruins, much of which can be seen from holes on the back nine. Opened in 1990, the 18-hole layout offers five sets of tees to accommodate all levels of player.
With plenty of supervised activities for kids and sports facilities for adults, recreation in Goose Creek covers pretty much anything you might desire.
