Take the kids on a daytrip to Greenville, SC. There is plenty to explore between the city's delicious food scene and its beautiful parks as well as a unique adventure at the Miniature World of Trains.
Arrive into town and drive to downtown Greenville on Main Street, where you can enjoy a fun morning in Falls Park. Walk one of its many scenic trails and enjoy the sight of Reedy River Falls as it cascades below the Liberty Bridge in the heart of downtown. Take a seat on one of the park's benches and admire the scenery as the kids run around on the grassy banks of the river.
After building up your appetite with all the fun at the park, there's nothing like South Carolina barbecue to hit the spot. Try Smoke on the Water for a delicious meal of slow-smoked goodness and all the fixin's. They have a delicious menu and a great atmosphere, and it's just a short walk from Falls Park.
After your family has had its fill of barbecue, stretch your legs and stroll south down Main Street until you hit Camperdown. The Miniature World of Trains is just around the corner. Inside, a huge handmade miniature replica of a mountain spans three-quarters of the way to the ceiling, with tunnels and towns intricately built into its tiny landscape. With a variety of miniature trains circling the track, there is plenty to watch and explore with the kids.
After the museum, drop off your bags at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites and regroup before dinner. The hotel is beautifully situated just a short drive from downtown Greenville, and it's a close walk to restaurants and venues in the area. They have complimentary Wi-Fi and a continental breakfast that's perfect for the whole family.
Greenville has many fantastic options for dinner. For a taste of local upscale Greenville fare, take the family to the Lazy Goat for a unique-to-Greenville Mediterranean experience by the water. Or if your kids are adventurous eaters, check out Nose Dive with its variety of different cuisine options. Otherwise, there are plenty of restaurants just minutes from the hotel for a relaxing way to end the day before you head back to the hotel and drive home the next morning.
