If you love to shop at farmers markets, you know that this has been a wonderful season for getting all those delicious South Carolina spring fruits and produce a little earlier than usual.

The strawberries were ripe about a month early this year, and the first peaches were picked ahead of
schedule.

It's also good news for farmers and all of us who love fresh produce that the community farmers markets are flourishing. Among the new markets this year is the Summerville Farmers Market, which is open on Saturday mornings.

The S.C. Farmers Markets in West Columbia, Greenville and Florence are open year-round, and so are some of the city markets. I often shop at Myrtle's Market, the city of Myrtle Beach farmers market, and it is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday all year.

But many city and community markets have just opened for the season. One of the markets below is probably close to where you live. Visit, shop and eat well.

Even though many are named here, this list isn't complete. Go to the Community-based Farmers Market page, the list of Certified SC members or Certified SC Roadside Markets page to see more.
