Santee National Wildlife Refuge is open year-round and is a must-see for nature lovers. An important migratory bird habitat, it's home to many species of birds and nesting residents in the spring and summer. You’re sure to see alligators and birds such as wood storks, prothonotary warblers and painted buntings, so bring a camera with a telephoto lens!
If fishing is your thing, then Santee will satisfy that itch. Recognized as one of the great fishing lakes in the country, Lake Marion offers fishing for bass, catfish and panfish. If you don't bring your own boat, you can rent one when you arrive. Or better yet, hire a local guide!
