Santee is situated off I-95 in the middle of the state, right on the south side of South Carolina’s largest lake—Lake Marion. With 315 miles of shoreline, the lake covers nearly 110,000 acres and offers some of the best fishing in the state. This man-made hydroelectric reservoir is one of the 50 largest lakes in the country and is often referred to as South Carolina’s inland sea. The lake was created in 1941 by the construction of the Santee Dam and is connected to a lower lake called Lake Moultrie by a 7.5-mile diversion canal.
The small, rural town of Santee is surrounded by quality golf courses and offers outstanding outdoor activities, including hiking, boating, fishing and birding. Outdoor attractions such as the Santee National Wildlife Refuge and Old Santee Canal Park shouldn't be missed. And if you are a fan of tent camping or travel in an RV, check out Santee State Park, which is located right on the lake and has its own boat ramp and store.
If golf is your passion then the area’s 16 golf courses are more than enough to satisfy. Affordable golf on great courses is a hallmark of Santee.
So, come to Santee prepared for a vacation that can’t be beat.
