It’s no secret that the beach is the main attraction in Myrtle Beach—but even the most dedicated sandcastle builders and wave jumpers need a change of pace now and then. The good news? This coastal favorite is packed with family-friendly activities beyond the shoreline.
From splash-worthy water parks and over-the-top mini golf courses to a towering Ferris wheel and medieval dinner shows, Myrtle Beach offers something for every age and energy level. Whether you’re looking to cool off, refuel or keep the fun going after the sun sets, you’ll find plenty to explore right around the heart of town.
Here’s a three-day sampler of family adventures to help you plan a vacation full of simple pleasures, big laughs and unforgettable memories.
Accommodations
Myrtle Beach is packed with family-friendly resorts that will help make your vacation easy, fun and (hopefully) stress-free. From indoor water parks to beachfront access and on-site arcades, here are a few top picks that both kids and parents will love.
Located on the quieter northern end of Myrtle Beach, Dunes Village Resort is one of the most popular family resorts in the area—and for good reason. It’s home to the largest indoor water park in any Myrtle Beach resort, spanning 30,000 square feet. The property also offers direct beach access, multiple pools, kid-friendly activities and spacious suites with full kitchens.
If you're looking for high-energy fun, Crown Reef Resort & Waterpark is a standout. This oceanfront resort near the south end of Myrtle Beach features a full-scale water park with two four-story slides, a lazy river and a silly, sub-themed splash zone for younger kids. Rooms and suites come with oceanfront balconies and easy beach access. Their accommodations range from oceanfront rooms to more spacious efficiencies, suites and two bedroom condos, which come equipped with an in-room kitchen.
Coral Beach Resort & Suites is all about family fun. Named ‘Best Family Resort by Travel Channel’, the resort is centrally located and features an entire recreation zone with a bowling alley, arcade and snack bar. The poolscape includes a lazy river, splash area and hot tubs, and the hotel offers live entertainment and kids’ activities in peak season.
The Caribbean Resort & Village has been a family favorite for decades. With its prime oceanfront location next to the popular Sea Captain’s House restaurant and close to attractions like the SkyWheel and Broadway at the Beach, it’s great for families who want a home base near the action. The resort has multiple buildings, water features and a 200-foot long lazy river that winds through a lush courtyard.
No matter which resort you choose, Myrtle Beach makes it easy to create lasting memories with the whole family. So pack your bags—and don’t forget the sunscreen!

The Ultimate Family Fun Day
When you’re looking for the perfect day with the kids in Myrtle Beach, it’s all about blending a little tradition, a little adventure and a lot of fun. From sunrise to sunset, there’s no shortage of ways to make memories on the Grand Strand.
It's a family tradition for many visitors to stop in for a hearty breakfast of fluffy pancakes, eggs and creamy grits before hitting the beach. Blueberry’s Grill is a favorite for families who like a creative twist on classic breakfast fare. With dishes like cinnamon roll French toast and pecan praline pancakes, there’s something for everyone—including vegan and gluten-free options. For a colorful, energetic atmosphere and an award-winning menu, head to Johnny D’s Waffles and Benedicts. Kids love the red velvet pancakes and Fruity Pebbles French toast, while parents will appreciate the handcrafted coffee drinks and savory Benedicts. If you’re in the mood for something more traditional, Olympic Flame Pancake House delivers all the diner-style favorites just steps from the beach. This cozy spot across from the ocean is a go-to for simple, delicious breakfasts with a side of seaside charm.
Once you're fueled up, it’s time to head to the beach. Myrtle Beach makes it easy, with landscaped public beach access points at nearly every block. Parking is usually close by, and South Carolina’s beaches are all free to enjoy. If you didn’t pack chairs or umbrellas, no worries—many beach access spots have rentals available, so you can set up and settle in for a morning of sun and surf.
When hunger hits but you don’t want to stray far from the sand, Myrtle Beach offers plenty of quick, family-friendly lunch options just steps from the beach. Mellow Mushroom, located near the Boardwalk, is a fun and funky spot to grab a pizza and head back out—perfect for families looking to share a stone-baked pie like the popular Funky Q. Chicken. Just a short walk from the beach, Bummz Beach Cafe serves up sandwiches, shrimp baskets and fish tacos with a side of ocean breeze. Its outdoor patio and casual vibe make it a great midday break without losing that beach-day feel. For something a little different, ART Burger Sushi Bar serves burgers, sushi and creative milkshakes in a trendy, boardwalk-adjacent space that kids and teens especially love. Whether you’re in the mood for a sushi burrito or a burger topped with bacon jam, it’s a fun, fast stop that keeps everyone fueled for more fun in the sun.
If you’re had enough beach for the day, swap the sand for something a little wilder: miniature golf. Myrtle Beach is famous for its over-the-top mini golf courses. You’ll spot colorful dinosaurs, pirate ships and jungle animals along U.S. 17. Playing during the day means you’ll beat the bigger evening crowds and save a little money with daytime rates. One of our family's favorites is Jungle Safari Golf, where waterfalls and life-sized elephants and giraffes create a fun, adventurous atmosphere kids will love.
After a full day of beachcombing and putting greens, cap off the evening with an unforgettable dinner experience at Medieval Times. It's not just a meal—it’s a full-on 11th-century tournament. The show features knights jousting, sword fights, horseback competitions and even falconry, all while you feast on garlic bread, tomato soup, roasted chicken, spare ribs, potatoes and a pastry dessert. (And yes—no forks or knives; you’ll eat with your hands, just like in medieval times!)

The castle doors open 90 minutes before showtime, so arriving early is a great way to snag the best seats and explore the medieval village.

A Day of Water Parks & Boardwalks
After a full day of beaches, mini golf and medieval knights, it’s time for another round of family adventures in Myrtle Beach.
Start the morning off with a thrill by hitting the water parks. Sure, the ocean is just steps away, but watch any kid's face after emerging from a shoot and splashing down into a pool of water, and you'll know it was worth the trip. The Myrtle Beach area is home to two great options the whole family will love.
At Myrtle Waves, South Carolina’s largest water park, you’ll find more than 30 slides and attractions for all ages, from toddler splash zones to heart-racing speed slides. Located right off U.S. 17 Bypass at 10th Avenue North, it’s a favorite summer spot once the season kicks off in May.
If you're looking for something a little closer to the ocean breeze, Family Kingdom Amusement and Water Park offers the Grand Strand’s only oceanfront water park, paired with a classic amusement park just across the street. It’s a full day of fun without ever losing sight of the sea.
After you’ve splashed, raced and floated your way through the morning, head back to the beach for a relaxing afternoon. Build a towering sandcastle, chase the waves or just sprawl out under the Carolina sun. Nothing beats a little downtime on the beach after a morning of action.
When the evening rolls around, it’s time to refuel—and River City Cafe is the perfect stop. Known for its laid-back atmosphere and juicy, kid-approved burgers, this local favorite has multiple locations along the Grand Strand. The one at 21st Avenue North is a hit with families, thanks to its outdoor deck and walls covered in colorful license plates. Plus, the kids (and kids at heart) will love the free peanuts—and the permission to toss the shells right onto the floor.
If you’re looking for a more sophisticated culinary experience that keeps that relaxed beach vibe, head to Hook & Barrel. Founded by South Carolina Chef Ambassador Heidi Vukov, Hook & Barrel is known for its locally sourced ingredients and commitment to eco-friendly products. Plus, their kids menu includes fun frozen mocktails like a kids mudslide (vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce).
As the sun sets, keep the fun going with a stroll down the iconic Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Stretching 1.2 miles, the boardwalk buzzes with energy on summer nights. Between the ocean views, lively shops and beachside restaurants, there’s something for everyone.
And no trip to the boardwalk is complete without a ride on the SkyWheel. This impressive observation wheel offers breathtaking views nearly 200 feet above the ocean from its 42 climate-controlled gondolas. Stick around after dark to catch the nightly light show—a dazzling end to your day.

For a little extra adventure, you’ll also find Ripley’s attractions nearby, like the Mirror Maze, Haunted Adventure and the ever-popular Ripley’s Believe It or Not!—guaranteed to keep the kids wide-eyed and laughing well into the night.

Capping Off Your Myrtle Beach Adventure
There’s no better way to wrap up your Myrtle Beach family getaway than with a little more sun, a little more music and a lot more fun. Day three is all about soaking up every last bit of the Grand Strand’s energy.
Start your morning slow and easy with more beach time, but mix it up with a little friendly competition this time. Grab a Frisbee for a casual game of catch or challenge the family to a bocce ball match on the sand. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the ocean breeze and squeeze in some active fun before the day’s bigger adventures begin.
When lunchtime rolls around, it’s time to rock out. Head over to the Hard Rock Cafe at Broadway at the Beach, where older kids and music lovers will be in heaven. This location is packed with legendary rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia—think guitars from Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton, a cape worn by Elvis and Johnny Cash’s black leather boots.
The menu features classic American favorites like burgers, wings, nachos and barbecue ribs, while the kids' menu covers all the bases with cheeseburgers, pasta, chicken tenders and hot dogs. And don't even think about leaving before hitting the gift shop—Hard Rock T-shirts are a favorite Myrtle Beach souvenir.
After lunch, spend the afternoon exploring more of Broadway at the Beach. With more than 100 specialty shops, amusement rides, arcade games and an IMAX theater, there’s enough here to fill the rest of your day (and then some).
Some family favorites at Broadway include the Broadway Grand Prix go-kart track, Dino Park, WonderWorks (an upside-down interactive museum) and the Play Park, which features areas just for preschool and elementary-aged kids.
If your family hasn't had their fill of ocean creatures yet, make a beeline for Ripley’s Aquarium. The shark exhibit, where you glide through a tunnel surrounded by sharks, is always a crowd-pleaser. Feeling adventurous? You can even sign up to swim with stingrays—an unforgettable experience for kids six and up. The aquarium remains open until 10 p.m. on weekends, providing ample time to explore.
If you’ve got baseball fans in the group, consider ending your evening with a game at BB&T Coastal Field across the street. Home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (the Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs), this beautiful minor league park is a great place to catch tomorrow’s stars today—and at a fraction of the cost of a major league game.
Before you call it a night, there’s one last Myrtle Beach tradition you can’t miss: a late-night bite at Peaches Corner. This iconic hot dog stand has been serving up legendary foot-long chili dogs and cheeseburgers since 1937. Grab a counter stool or a booth, enjoy some great people-watching and savor one last taste of Myrtle Beach before heading home.
